AFE Cronite Technologies

Global Leader for Heat Treatment Assembly Jigs

AFE Cronite Technologies is the global leader for the design and production of heat treatment furnace equipment and holding jigs with over 10,000 furnaces utilising its systems around the world.

Its solutions are adapted to heat treatment furnace loading based on:

  • Standard systems optimized for the most common furnaces installed in the United States (base trays, props, cross beams, grates, spacers, baskets, stackable frames, etc.)
  • Systems designed to meet component treatment and handling specifications.

Objectives

To continually work towards optimising cast part protection, increase useful loads, reduce reject rates, identify automation possibilities, and control distortions to increase service life.

In order to implement its solutions, AFE Cronite Technologies uses a wide range of processes and materials: graphite castings, CFC with special coatings, cast or centrifuged Nickel Chromium alloy components, and specific alloys for machine-welded parts.

Major parts produced:

Research & Development

Continuous research of alloys and materials suited to the heat treatment processes
of our customers. Our design offices are equipped with 3D CAD systems providing the ability to simulate mechanical constraints at temperature and to enable rapid CNC machining of patterns.

The design objectives:

  • Reduce the weight of support to :
    - Increase productivity
    - Reduce fixture cost
    -
Reduce cost of energy to heat
  • Optimization of parts treated in respect of constraints of heat treatment
  • Consider means of loading (manual or robotic)
  • Take account of customers production flow

Baskets

Multiple combinations adapted to every type of furnace

Grid basket

Stackable basket

CFC basket

AFE Cronite Technologies offers baskets assembled from castings and fitted with grids according to need. The dimensions of these baskets are compatible with most existing chamber furnaces. They may be used with or without a base tray depending on the situation.

The different available heights allow many different combinations depending on the parts to be treated and the maximum space available in the chamber.

Aside from the standard alloy - 38%Ni + 18%Cr + Nb - appropriate for gaseous case hardening and oil quenching, other alloys can be suggested for special applications in case of heavy loads, substantial quenching depths, vacuum treatments at high temperature and with or without gas quenching.

Baskets with the same design can be provided with or without an integrated base tray for case hardening in pusher-type furnaces.

Simpler baskets of the container type are also available for continuous isothermal furnaces and for annealing furnaces.

There are also round baskets for use in multifunction furnaces and well furnaces.

Base Trays

Solutions adapted to customer needs

Stackable base trays

Stackable base trays

AFE Cronite Technologies designs and produces many different base tray models, adapted to virtually all heat treatment furnaces:

- pusher-type furnaces
- chamber furnaces
- well furnaces
- rocker bar furnaces

Cast refractory alloys, thanks to their properties which include dimensional stability and very high resistance to heat deformation, are particularly well-adapted to severe utilisation constraints.

The models on offer at AFE Cronite Technologies exist in a standard format. However, new base tray designs can be studied and developed for special uses.

Loading Systems

Over 40 years of experience in the Heat Treatment field

Axis mount

Mounting solution example

AFE Cronite Technologies has a large database that capitalises on over 40 years of experience in the heat treatment field.

Its objective is to determine the right treatment for the job in the most cost-effective manner; its design offices have many standard parts and can develop specific individual components and treatments.

Each study is conducted jointly with the customer in search of:

  • A good net weight/gross weight ratio
  • Proper circulation of treatment, quenching, and washing fluids
  • Minimum casting distortion

Mixing turbine

AFE Cronite Technologies can provide miscellaneous refractory alloy furnace components including CFC or graphite materials as well as die cast, machine welded, centrifuge cast, etc.

These parts can either be specification designed or produced from standard designs like for example:

  • rails
  • rollers
  • mixing turbines
  • radiant tubes
  • regenerators
  • supports

Low Pressure Case Hardening

Nickel Aluminium alloy assemblies for low pressure case hardening

Low pressure case hardening furnace

Mancellium jigs

AFE Cronite Technologies has been supplying nickel aluminium alloy parts since 1998 under the patented trade name: Mancellium™. This term was coined from Mancelle de Fonderie, a pioneering European company in the nickel aluminide industry.

In view of the experience acquired, Mancellium™ is a highly cost-effective material for producing dies utilised for low pressure case hardening.

Its properties include good high temperature strength thanks to the structural hardening of the Ni3Al type compounds, as well as exceptional resistance to corrosion and recarburisation due to the formation of combined layers of chromium and aluminium oxides.
